My research focuses on developing a better understanding of mosquitoes and their role in mosquito-borne disease. This involves studies into the molecular evolution, distribution and population genetics of mosquitoes in our region and incorporates field and molecular studies that tease out morphologically cryptic mosquito species groups. We develop and implement DNA-based diagnostic tools that are used to determine which species transmit disease pathogens, map species distributions, study population connectivity and movement. Computer-based spatial analysis methods are also applied to this spatial data to enable a better understanding of the environmental factors that influence species' ecology, distribution and movement.
