I am interested in developing methods of restoring tropical forests at degraded sites that generate conservation benefits but which are also sufficiently attractive to landholders to make it possible for these methods to be applied on a large scale. I am also interested in ways of enhancing the ecological, economic and social resilience of these new forests so they can withstand future environmental and economic changes. My work has been carried out with colleagues in Queensland, Southeast Asia and China. Much of this work has been summarised in my recent (2011) book Regreening the Bare Hills: Tropical Forest Restoration in the Asia-Pacific Region. Springer.
