Research Group Leaders

Jenny Ovenden is the head of the Molecular Fisheries Laboratory at UQ. The group uses genetic and genomic tools to address practical issues associated with the sustainable use and conservation of aquatic species. Research projects commonly define the spatial extent and connectivity of population of marine species. With this information, authorities can implement appropriate access rules and monitoring procedures designed to prevent localised depletions. For example, a large project is underway to determine extent of connectivity between gemfish (Rexea solandri) populations on the eastern and southern coasts of Australia. Further information about projects underway, and past projects, as well as group associates and students can be found at www.molecularfisherieslaboratory.com.au
